Welcome to ROOTS (Rainham Oast Old Time Sessions) where American Old Time music is live and kicking.

Welcome to Rainham Oast Old Time Sessions (ROOTS). This American old time, bluegrass music & dance club takes place in Rainham Kent UK on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday every month, from 8pm to 11pm. Whether you like listening to, playing along or dancing, please come and join us, and enjoy an evening out with this infectious foot tapping live music. There is plenty of opportunity to take part, with bands, singers, dancers and solo spots. We welcome both experienced and less experienced performers and give plenty of encouragement and help to anybody learning an instrument. So if you have taken up the banjo, fiddle, double bass, guitar etc. come along and have a go. An entrance fee of £2 is charged to cover the cost of venue and help towards the cost of the occasional guest artist.
Club nights provide the opportunity to meet others with similar interests, to keep up to date with events and to find others to play along with at all levels.

We welcome visitors who drop in occasionally and we are more than willing to help anybody who wants to learn any instrument associated with Old-time & Bluegrass music, as well as those who would like to have a go at Appalachian dancing & Flat-footing. A resident Appalachian side, TapRoots, can be seen at the club.
The aim of the club night is to give everybody who wants to, the opportunity to play, dance, or sing in front of a friendly audience, whether as a band or a solo artist, and those that would rather not play in front of an audience are encouraged to strum along in the background.
We aim to get, as many floor spots in as possible, so every body is able to perform before and after the break, but when a guest artist is booked the floor spots are limited so as to provide 2 x ¾ hour slots for the guest artist. Also as a challenge, periodically we will hold a theme night where everybody will have a go at playing songs from a particular artist or subject. So come along, you are more than welcome.
The club will also host shows and share workshops, and provide teaching sessions whenever possible.
Pick the Tutors button for a list of teachers and their location. The list will be expanded, as more teachers are located. We hope to cover Banjo, and the various styles of playing, Fiddle, Guitar, Mandolin, Double bass, Appalachian Dulcimer, Auto harp, and Appalachian / Flatfoot Dancing
Club nights are held in the bar at Rainham Oast Community Centre next to Rainham Railway Station in Kent, full postal address:
