Who we are and how we started

January the 15th 2003 was the first night of Rainham Oast Old Time Sessions. With a few friends we managed to get 20 people together, a few musicians and dancers, and an audience.

As it is now, our club was held in the bar of the Rainham Oast Community Centre, we all like American Old Time music, hence the name, and yes it is an old converted Oast house. On top of the drying kilns, where they use to dry the hops there are the distinctive cowls. If you have never seen an oast house before take a look at http://www.digiserve.com/peter/oast.htm

Chas noticed the acronym ROOTS, thats got to be a lucky omen so ROOTS we became. The club has turned out to be lively spontaneous and full of fun, home made music at its best.

We meet twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday and so far none have been missed. Although our numbers vary we have always been able to keep the music flowing from 8pm to 11pm. All our club nights are good but the most memorable night was when Clarke Buehling performed for us, a record 51 people turned out to see him.
